Running Training Plan App

Rutz is a running training plan app for iPhone. It builds a personalized plan for your 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon, analyzes every run you do, and rewrites the week ahead when life gets in the way.

What is a running training plan app?

A running training plan app is a mobile app that tells you what to run and when, in order to reach a goal — usually a race distance or a finish time. Instead of following a static PDF, you get a schedule on your phone that syncs with your watch and tracks what you complete.

The best running training plan apps do three things: they personalize the plan to your fitness and calendar, they adapt when your training doesn't go to plan, and they explain what your runs mean. Many apps do the first. Few do all three.

Rutz is built around the second and third. Your race date and training phases stay fixed, but each week is written fresh from the runs you actually did. After every run you get a coach's read on how it went and what it changes.

Checklist

What to look for in a running training plan app

Real personalization

Does it use your own run history and heart-rate data, or just ask your age and a recent race time?

Adaptation

When you miss a week, does the plan change — or does it just mark you as behind?

Explanation

Does it tell you why a run matters and how the last one went, or only hand you numbers?

Safe progression

Is there a limit on how fast your training load can climb? Most running injuries are load errors.

Device support

Does it work with the watch you already own? Any device that syncs to Intervals.icu reaches Rutz — Garmin, COROS, Suunto, Polar and more.

Honest pricing

Can you try it before you commit? Rutz will have a free tier and a premium tier, the waitlist is free, and inviting 2 friends who join earns 1 free premium month.

Why Rutz

Your plan. Your week.

Most apps hand you a schedule. Rutz hands you a coach that has read every one of your runs.

  1. 1

A plan written for you, every week

No 16-week PDF. Rutz builds backwards from your race date, then writes each week from the runs you actually did — not the ones you were supposed to do.

  2. 2

    It flexes when life happens

Missed Tuesday? Flying Thursday? Your week reshapes around reality, so one bad day never turns into a broken plan.

  3. 3

    Every run, explained

Finish a run and your coach tells you what it meant — effort, pacing, fatigue, and what it changes about tomorrow. Tracking isn't coaching. This is.

  4. 4

Works with the watch you already own

Garmin, COROS, Suunto, Polar and more. If your watch syncs to Intervals.icu, Rutz can read it. One sign-in connects everything.

FAQ: Running training plan app

What is the best app for running training plans?

Look for three things: a plan built from your own run history rather than a questionnaire, a plan that rewrites itself when you miss training, and feedback that explains what each run meant. Rutz is built around all three — it writes your week from the runs you actually did and reviews every one of them. It is an iPhone app, currently in private beta.

Is there an AI running coach app?

Yes. Rutz is an AI running coach app. It reads your watch data through Intervals.icu, computes your training load, pacing and efficiency in code, and uses AI to interpret those results into a weekly plan and a plain-language review of each run. It covers any running goal from 5K to 50K.

Does Rutz work with Garmin?

Yes, through Intervals.icu. Connect your Garmin account to Intervals.icu (it's free), then sign in to Rutz with Intervals.icu. COROS, Suunto, Polar, Wahoo and other devices that sync to Intervals.icu work the same way.

Is Rutz free?

Joining the waitlist is free. Final pricing hasn't been announced, but there will be a free tier and a premium tier — how much AI analysis you get depends on the tier. Invite 2 friends who join and you earn 1 free premium month.

Is Rutz on Android?

Not yet. Rutz is an iPhone app, coming soon to the App Store. Join the waitlist and tell us your device in the survey — it directly shapes what we build next.

Can a running app replace a human coach?

For most recreational runners, a good adaptive app covers what matters: structure, progression, feedback and accountability. A human coach is still the better choice for elite goals, complex injury history, or if you simply want a person in your corner.
